The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) offers bursaries to students pursuing higher education in fields related to the mining and minerals sector. The MQA aims to drive transformation in the industry by developing skills and improving employment equity, health, and safety standards.
Benefits of the Bursary
The MQA bursary covers tuition fees, accommodation, books, and meals for unemployed students, and tuition fees and book allowances for employed students. The bursary program supports students at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
Area Covered
The bursary covers various fields of study, including:
University and University of Technology studies: Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and more
TVET College studies (Nated courses: N4 to N6 and NCV qualifications): Boilermaker, Bricklayer, Carpenter and Joiner, and more.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Be studying or intend to study towards an Undergraduate qualification in a relevant field
- Be studying or intend to study at a public University, University of Technology, or TVET College in South Africa
- Meet specific requirements for unemployed or employed bursaries

Applications must be submitted online at the MQA Bursary Application 2025 portal. Required documents include certified copies of ID, grade reports, and proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution.
